Lighting in a dining room usually has a focal point above the dining room table. This works both as a light source, and a central feature within the room.
The shape of the table will partly determine the design of fitting you suspend above it. For example a circular table will lend itself to a circular light fitting whilst a strip light with several hanging pendants lined up in a row will better suit a rectangular shaped table. A glass table will reflect the light, so a style that does not have the bulb exposed will be preferable to reduce glare. Most hanging fittings give you the capacity to choose the height you want to set the fitting at, at the time of installation. As a guide pendants should hang about 60cm above a table. Alternatively a rise and fall pendant gives you the capability to alter the height of the fitting to suit. Take a look at our beautiful French rise and fall fittings available in various finishes and designs.
Central fittings can be complemented with the addition of wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps. These add to the ambience of the room and change the mood accordingly. You can also control the level of light effectively by fitting dimmer switches. If you want to create a romantic scene, set the dimmer to low and envelop the room with light from background lamps, subtle yet very effective!!
